Trump lookalike sparks row

CELEBRITY LOOKALIKES:

The recent global wave of celebrity lookalike contests (below) hit Brisbane at the weekend with a controversial winner being picked as the entrant most resembling US President-elect Donald Trump.

Local man Vernon Snerd said he was pleased to win the contest held on Sunday in New Farm Park but rejected criticisms from other entrants questioning the validity of the judges’ decision.

“I heard about the contest and decided to enter, but took a different approach to others in the contest,” Mr Snerd said.

“I don’t really look like Donald Trump so I decided to make my own entry reflecting his essential character.”

Mr Snerd said the final result was a dressed-up mound of fresh dog droppings he retrieved from Brisbane City Council canine waste bins.

“When I had enough of the stuff I put a Trump wig on it and stuck a sneering mouth on its ‘face’ and added some doughnuts for eyes, which I personally thought was great tribute to Trump’s love of fast food,” Mr Snerd said.

“I’m very pleased to win, and while I can understand the disappointment of the losing entrants, I think my Trump is closest to the real things, and clearly the judges agreed.”

Many contest losers who spoke to The Bug claimed the rules of the contest had been breached because Mr Snerd himself had not been an entrant. But organisers of the event said their hands were tied.

“All members of the judging panel except one agreed that Mr Snerd should win the contest,” a spokesperson for the organisers said.

“Before announcing the result we checked the rules and they were silent on whether an entry needed to be a human being, so the judges’ decision stands.

“Even the dissenting judge was not concerned about any possible breach of the rules, since their decision not to support Mr Snerd’s entry was not based on its lack of human form.

“They simple didn’t think it looked enough like Donald Trump and in fact thought it was meant to be Clive Palmer,” the spokesperson said.
