Chief Justice downplays makeover

WASHINGTON DC: US Chief Justice John Roberts says nothing should be read into a refurbishment of the Supreme Court building.

Chief Justice Roberts (centre below) said that some people had questioned the appropriateness of replacing the words “Equal Justice Under Law” with “Make American Great Again” above the court building’s main entrance. (main picture)

“Nothing to see here, as they say,” Chief Justice Roberts said. “It’s just a slight tweaking to the old motto which I felt might make Matt Gaetz feel a little more at home when he takes over in January as US Attorney-General.

“People shouldn’t get upset about it. There have been a number of updates to the motto since the Supreme Court was established in 1789.”

When asked what that number was, Chief Justice Roberts replied: “Well,… errr… one.”

Netflix says it has already agreed to a request by former world heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson to stream a follow-up bout following his defeat on Saturday by Jake Powell.

A Netflix spokesperson said it had signed Tyson to a new contract for another live-streamed fight despite concerns about the 58-year-old’s fitness and the potential risks to his health.

“People may blame us and accuse us of being money-hungry after the Tyson-Powell fight which we admit was financially very lucrative for us,” a Netflix spokesperson said.

“But Mike came to us soon after his failed comeback and said he had lined up an opponent he reckons he can beat and who should help him break the viewership records we set with last week’s bout while posing  no threat to his own health and wellbeing.

“So we’ve inked a deal and the Tyson-Biden fight is expected to go ahead in late January next year,” the spokesperson said.

Average Australians have backed in principle the Albanese Government’s plan to force some retail outlets to accept cash instead of forcing customers to make electronic payments.

Most consumers approached by The Bug to discuss the plan said it was a good idea but that they could give it only qualified support because of the current high cost of living, unchanged housing interest rates, and unchecked supermarket price gouging.

“Basically I’d love to use cash when making my purchases. If only I had some cash to use,” said one respondent echoing a widespread response.
