Dutton crashes Crisafulli’s party

Federal Opposition Leader, Peter Dutton, last night dramatically interrupted celebrations by the LNP of its apparent win in yesterday’s Queensland election.

LNP leader and presumptive premier, David Crisafulli, was delivering a victory speech at an inner-Brisbane hotel after initial counting of votes suggested his party had secured the necessary 47 seats or more to form government in its own right.

During his speech he alluded to Labor’s seemingly successful tactics of casting doubt in voters’ minds about the risk of an LNP government allowing its MPs to vote in support of winding back the state’s abortion laws and to once again make the procedure a criminal offence.

In telling the roomful of supporters that the Labor claims on such an emotive issue were unfounded, Mr Crisafulli decried the tactic by declaring: “This is not America. We don’t pander to extremism.”

It was at that point that Mr Dutton was heard to exclaim: “Oh yes we do!”

The federal leader then left his position at the side of the stage and lunged at Mr Crisafulli in a bid to prevent him speaking further. (main picture)

Luckily for the state leader Mr Dutton fell short and hit the stage heavily, landing at Mr Crisafulli’s feet.

Mr Dutton then grasped at Mr Crisafulli’s feet, attempting to drag him away from the lectern and microphone, but LNP staffers quickly and quietly removed the federal leader from the stage.

Labor sources have revealed the reason Premier Steven Miles did not formally concede to Mr Crisafulli and the LNP in his speech to supporters last night.

“Steven and his advisers tested out several versions of his speech before he appeared before the cameras,” a party source said.

“Because the result wasn’t clear when he spoke but it looked like the LNP was ahead on seats, we took some time to have him rehearse a version of the speech casting doubt on any Crisafulli victory. (below)

“In the end we all decided he should give the speech he gave,” the source said.

One Nation’s federal leader and founder, Senator Pauline Hanson, says she is satisfied with the performance of her party at the Queensland election despite the fact it will have no MP in the new parliament.

“While we have lost our only state seat I think we did all white when you look at our share of the vote in individual seats especially in redneck… I mean, regional areas,” Senator Hanson said.

“Overall the state swung to the white yesterday which is the most important thing.”
