The negative reaction in many quarters to the purchase by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese (main picture) of a $4.3 million clifftop house during a national housing affordability crisis, has caused Opposition Leader Peter Dutton to finalise his own plans to acquire two substantial properties.
Sources within the federal Liberal Party said the public response to Mr Albanese’s decision to buy a new beach house at Copacabana north of Sydney had prompted Mr Dutton to firm up his own plans to move into the two properties within the next six to eight months.
“One of the properties is a 40-room Australian Georgian revival style mansion set in extensive landscaped grounds in Canberra (below),” said a senior Liberal Party source.

“The other is a two-level twin-gabled Gothic-style stone residence on around 4,000 square metres of harbour-front land on the northern side of Sydney Harbour with sweeping water views. (below)

“Peter is planning to use both properties as his new family homes, after he moves from his existing dwelling at Dayboro north of Brisbane.
“He’s already started to pack up his Dayboro house and has booked furniture removal vans which will be on standby to move him and his family into their new homes at the appropriate time,” the source said.
