Abortion our October surprise?

The Bug‘s second look at its Xcrements-of–the-Week kicks off with the very faint possibility (sadly in our view) that the issue of abortion that has dominated the Queensland election campaign over recent days might somehow affect the outcome on 26 October.

We don’t think it will change things much – our best guess is that the Miles Labor government is going to cop a massive but unwarranted hiding – but generally our X feed saw pluses for Labor in that debate and at the very least Steven Miles and his party might be able to save much of the electoral furniture to make 2028 a real contest.

We’ll kick off with Jane Caro (at top and below), who thinks abortion might be a big vote-changer in the Sunshine State.

Everald Compton thinks likewise, seeing any hint of the LNP changing current laws on abortion availability and voluntary assisted dying as “political insanity”.

Quentin Dempster also saw the issue emerging as a big vote changer ….

Stacky etc, etc, also went hard on the abortion issue while NOT a Canberra Bubbler tackled a separate issue dogging the LNP mid campaign.

Michael Taylor and GregMarSci viewed the election in general terms, the latter making a point that The Bug thinks the Labor party should be hammering even harder than it is if it wants to limit the damage later this month.

… while Peter Murphy pulled up a chart to show why so many other Xcretas are not convinced with David Crisafulli’s daily denials that the law won’t be changing.

Sunday night’s Newspoll now, showing the LNP ahead 51-49 two-party preferred for the first time since the 2022 election.

We’ll give Quentin Dempster a second bite of the cherry, especially so for his “battle of the duds” comment….

… while Eddy Jokovich and Ash Leahy also xcreted on the poll, the latter making the sobering point that just because Peter Dutton makes a lot of people’s flesh crawl, that doesn’t preclude him from taking The Lodge next Mayish.

Okay, an eclectic lot of topics now, so take it away Rex Patrick, JayJay and Dazza.

We have no idea why Dazza wanted to revisit the Liar from the Shire but we guess it’s good to be reminded every now and then what a dreadful piece of work he was and still is.

Finally, here are a few contributions we meant to include yesterday when covering Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza. Take it away, two very-well-known and admired Australians in Doug Cameron and Paul Bongiorno.
