And that’s one crappy wrap!

The column that has fun with the smaller mistakes and missteps of Australia’s mainstream mediocre; that pays homage to those sweet little fishes that individually don’t amount to a full meal but collectively can cause a tummy upset over the overall state of the once great and noble craft of journalism in this country.

For some days now, the anchors on the ABC’s News Breakfast have said a really silly thing on air around 6.45am.

Namely that they’re about to share “a wrap of the front papers”.

Michael Rowland has said it. His co-host Bridget Brennan has said it. Stand-in host Stephanie Ferrier said it today.

It is silly, isn’t it? They have all clearly meant to say “front pages” as a lead in to the daily What the Papers Say segment.

Here’s the dilemma we face at Mediocre Bytes, given that we are always totally committed to accuracy and strive relentlessly to be totally fair to those in the fourth estate we take the mickey out of from time to time.

Does their autocue say “front pages” but they’re all misreading it?

Or does it say “front papers” and they’ve never twigged how silly it sounds when they read that out?

Not that it helps answering the above but Rowland the other day did say “front pages”. He has been doing What the Papers Say a lot longer than Brennan and Ferrier so he might have gotten that right through force of habit?

But here’s the bottom line. The washed up, bitter, old hacks who compile this column have wondered now for some days when this thing is finally going to get sorted! Is there not one person in the studio with good hearing determined to put a quick end to this nonsense? Can’t just one person at Aunty who likes its news-based programs to be 100 per cent accurate and professional step in and fix this piece of silliness?

Or come Monday, will whoever is hosting News Breakfast once again alert us to the fact that we’re about to have a wrap of the front papers? You BUGgers out there might scoff but we really would prefer not having to take the mickey out of the program’s co-presenters – yet again – come early next week.

C’mon, Aunty! Being accurate surely isn’t rocket surgery?
