Netanyahu disputes warning claims

THE MIDDLE EAST:

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected claims that he is replicating in Lebanon the type of genocide already being inflicted on Palestinians in Gaza.

Speaking to reporters during a visit to Gaza (main picture) Mr Netanyahu said he especially wanted to dispute suggestions that he and the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) were not providing sufficient notice of imminent air and missile strikes to civilians in both Gaza and now Lebanon.

“We give civilians as much notice as we think they need to vacate an area being targeted,” he said. “Now that we are firing rockets at two different locations – into Gaza and into Lebanon – I have insisted that the IDF maintains the warning system we have in place.”

Asked exactly when before a missile strike civilians were warned of an attack, Mr Netanyahu looked at his watch and said very slowly: “Aaaaa…..bouuuuut ….nnnnnnnnn….now!” he said just as IDF rockets few overhead in two directions.

Asked if he believed the death toll in Lebanon could reach the level experienced so far in Gaza, Mr Netanyahu replied: “Yasny.”

The answer prompted one foreign reporter to ask for the remark to be translated from what they assumed to be Hebrew.

“No, it’s not Hebrew,” Mr Netanyahu explained.

“Y-A-S-N-Y is actually an acronym I use when discussing our offensive in Lebanon – you ain’t seen nothing yet!” he explained with a wink and a grin before departing while stifling a laugh.
