Police probe Murdoch ‘sketches’

MURDOCH LEGAL BATTLE:

Police in the US state of Nevada are investigating a case of potential fraud following efforts by a person claiming to be a courtroom sketch artist to sell images supposedly drawn inside the secret hearing of the Murdoch family’s legal battle over a family trust.

A spokesperson for Nevada State Police (NSP) said a yet-to-be-identified person had used email to approach the newsrooms of a number of major media outlets in a bid to have them buy several sketches.

“The sketches being touted and claimed to having been executed in the Reno courtroom where the case  is being heard, included one supposedly representing Rupert Murdoch (main picture) giving evidence,” the NSP spokesperson said.

“A second sketch claiming to be of Lachlan Murdoch at the bar table (below) was also submitted for sale at a price the NSP is not disclosing at this time.

“The sketches prompted email exchanges with the would-be online vendor by editorial staff at several media outlets dismissing the works as fake.

“The alleged artist replied that they were both genuine and that the Lachlan Murdoch ‘sketch’ could be verified by the fact the real Lachlan has somewhat spikey hair and an upper-arm tattoo.

“However, NSP fraud squad detectives are satisfied that both the Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch images are fake.

“At the same time they believe that another sketch offered for sale – one of Rupert and Lachlan’s lawyer, the former Trump administration Attorney-General William Barr – is genuine. (below)

“In fact our officers believe it is a most accurate representation, almost lifelike, so as you can tell it’s a very complicate investigation,” the NSP spokesperson said.
