ENTITLED BILLIONAIRES:
Mining magnate Gina Rinehart has defended her “defence and economic blueprint” for Australia delivered late last week in a pre-recorded video address to a News Crap Australia’s rural summit in Townsville. (main picture)
“I know my ideas have copped some criticism supposedly for being ill-thought and superficial,” she told The Bug this morning. “But I stand by my speech and my very sensible proposals to Make Australia Great Again.
“For instance what’s wrong with my idea of an iron-ore dome to protect our nation just like Israel has? I’ll even donate some of my own iron ore if that helps.
“I also see nothing wrong with my suggestion that we invest in smart sea mines. Again, I’ll invest myself in sea mines, in fact I’ll invest in mines wherever they are if it comes to that.”
When asked to detail specific expenditure cuts to support her claim of the need to “cut government waste” Ms Rinehart said she had “a very long list”.
“I am especially interested in eliminating wasteful duplication by the federal government,” she said.
“For a start do we really need the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra? We’ve got an art gallery in Perth and in other capital cities so why duplicate them at the federal level?”
Ms Rinehart said she was disappointed that the Albanese Government did not listen to her ideas, especially those aimed at cutting the cost of living for struggling Australians.
“A lot of people, unfortunately, like to complain but don’t want to work,” she said. “If only they would get of their backsides and inherit a few more mines they’d have nothing to complain about.
“In addition, do we really need the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra?”
A spokesperson for Peter Dutton said the Opposition Leader had incurred “a legitimate parliamentary expense” by flying to Townsville from Canberra to watch and loudly cheer Ms Rinehart’s 10-minute video before immediately flying back at a so-far unknown cost.
Ms Rinehart said she would not be silenced by critics of her address, adding: “Do we really need the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra?”
