God does bless NZ after all!

I feel obliged to update my rant from yesterday (reprinted below) when I compared the populations of Australia and New Zealand and how well our ANZAC mates across the dutch were performing in Paris with a third as many gold medals as Oz but with a fifth of the population.

Well, events in the City of Light/Love/Merde Coffee/Shitty River have blown that comparison out of the water.

While Australia picked up a couple of commendable silver medals, the Land of the Long White Cloud had its best day in Olympic history, claiming three more gold medals! Dame Lisa Carrington won her third gold medal of these Games, in the K1 500m, Lydia Ko won the women’s golf and Hamish Kerr took out the men’s high jump.

That’s right. In one amazing day for our small Pacific neighbours, they’ve gone from winning a third of our medals to bloody well half!

Riffing on from yeterday’s rant, Australia, based on its population advantage, should now have 45 gold medals compared with New Zealand’s tally.

All that’s left for me to do is once again congratulate my Kiwi grandson Matthew G-B on his country’s amazing efforts in France.

He should be very, very proud.
