Driving danglingly!

The column that has fun with the smaller mistakes and missteps of Australia’s mainstream mediocre; that pays homage to those sweet little fishes that individually don’t amount to a full meal but collectively can cause a tummy upset over the overall state of the once great and noble craft of journalism in this country.

This column some years ago gave up highlighting the almost pervasive use of the dangling participle across the nation’s mainstream mediocre, especially as used almost relentlessly by the tyros in TV news bulletins.

Let’s face it. They probably don’t even know how to spell “dangling participle” let alone know what a naughty thing it used to be in English usage, especially to the washed-up, old, hacks who compile this column and who, sadly, were educated in another millennium.

But we’ll make an exception for this excellent example from Nine News Queensland’s 6pm bulletin last Saturday where our breathless young reporter covered an allegedly drunk person swerving in and out of lanes on the M1 between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Here it comes….. “Driving erratically through Logan , other drivers kept their distance….”

Oh, dear.

Well, this is the column that highlights silly little mistakes, and we did like this one from The Independent online the other day.

Imagine being a union secretary on a salary of hundreds of thousands of dollars a year and only having to work in the interests of one, solitary, teacher!

We collected another harmless little brainfade with this little gem on the SMH online from US- based reporter Farrah Tomazin….

Unless Farrah is inferring that Kamala Harris will have to under some gender-testing procedures should she defeat Donald Trump, we’re fairly confident that if elected in November, she WILL BE the first woman to serve as president.

And a late one this morning (Thursday) from the ABC online, with the incorrect use of the possessive “its”.
