With US President Joe Biden abandoning his campaign for re-election and his Vice-President Kamala Harris becoming the presumptive Democratic Party nominee for the November presidential election, focus now falls on who will be her pick as running mate. The Bug’s Washington DC bureau took to the streets to ask some movers and shakers why they should get the job.

Clint Hillaryon, 76, Democratic Party activist:
“I’m determined to be President and would be willing to sit out eight years – but hopefully just four – as Kamala’s VP – or even better, four years of Trump – and take another… I mean, take a run at the White House in 2032 at the latest when I’ll be just 84.”

Spencer Michael, 65, Republican Party activist:
“I think our nation needs a bipartisan team in the White House. I’m a Republican but I could easily work with Kamala Harris as her Vice-President, as long as I am never required to be alone with her at any time.”

Clint Billon, 77, Democratic Party activist:
“I think mah biggest qualification is the fact that Ah did not have sexual relations with that woman… Ms Harris.”

Michelle Pence, 65, Republican Party activist
“Two women of different parties leading our nation and the free world would be a historic achievement and I am ready to serve Kamala Harris as her Vice-President if she is elected in November, as long as I can get her to promise not to actively encourage anyone to kill me.”

Joan Bydon, 81, Democratic Party inactivist:
“I used to be with it, but then they changed what ‘it’ was. Now, what I’m with isn’t it, and what’s ‘it’ seems weird and scary to me. It’ll happen to you. Besides ……… we finally beat Medicare.”
