Netanyahu applies pier pressure

GAZA GENOCIDE:

TEL AVIV: Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has appealed to the United State to reverse a decision to scrap its floating pier designed to deliver humanitarian aid to the people of war-torn Gaza. (below)

The US$230 million pier – aimed at receiving aid supplies ferried from ships anchored offshore in the Mediterranean Sea – has been operational for only two months but has faced numerous operation problems including disruptions from storms and high seas.

The US military has said the 370m pier had only ever been planned to deliver a “surge” in aid  and had delivered more than 8,000 tonnes of essential supplies.

But Mr Netanyahu said he had sent an urgent message to US President Joe Biden asking him to intervene and keep the pier open.

“The pier must be kept operational because of the essential role it has been playing in the past few months,” Mr Netanyahu told a media briefing. (main picture)

“The pier provided a simple and effective step-by-step process for delivering aid.

“First the supplies were shipped from offshore vessels and landed in Gaza, then they were distributed to the Palestinians living, or should I say still alive, in Gaza.

“This meant the Israeli Defence Force could much more easily target Palestinian men, women, and children gathered to receive aid supplies. The IDF could then engage them in one spot before they were all sent off for burial in one spot.

“It’s been a very efficient system – I’d go so far as saying it’s a sfiab. It’s saved the IDF a lot of time, effort, and ammo so it’s essential that it stays open,” he said.

When asked if “sfiab” was a Hebrew word which he might translate for the foreign correspondents in the briefing room, Mr Netanyahu said: “No, no, it’s not Hebrew – ‘sfiab’ is an acronym used by the IDF for shooting fish in a barrel.”

A White House spokesperson said while the Israeli PM’s request was inappropriate, illogical, and economically unviable, it would be inappropriate to pre-empt President Biden’s decision on Mr Netanyahu’s request before he approved it.
