Labor rift over poll slogan

2024 QUEENSLAND POLL:

The Steven Miles Cabinet appears strongly divided over the Labor Party’s main slogan for the October 26 state election.

“It’s just too damned negative,” one senior minister said of the slogan “If you think things are bad now…

The main slogan is understood to go hand in hand with the kicker line “…Crisafulli will really cock everything up!”

The Bug has obtained exclusive internal party footage of Premier Miles at party HQ (above) shooting dummy-run announcements using the hand-in-glove slogans The Bug understands were not only his own creations but ones he is very proud of.

A Miles aide explained: “Crisafulli has gone on record that he’s all for smaller government. He’s announced he will tax less and spend less.

“The subtle message behind the boss’s clever slogans is that Queensland hasn’t got the dough to fix the problems this state already has, with so many people coming to live here, both from interstate and overseas, the latter he’s vowed to try to reduce.

“So how is Crisafulli going to fix alleged out-of-control youth crime, hospital ramping and other general health woes, also fund education and address other pressing matters while trying to relieve the cost-of-living crisis for struggling Queenslanders with smaller government, especially seeing he has vowed to forgo the $10 billion year income from coal royalties.”

That senior minister also argued that using Crisafulli’s name was also a big mistake.

“Why give him that publicity? For mine, it’s a marketing no-no… it’s a senseless leg-up to the LNP.

“And I think using the swear word cock was also over the top and totally unnecessary and a lot of my colleagues agree.

“But please, this must all be off the record because after we lose badly in October I plan to run as Opposition leader and I’m fairly confident I can be Premier in 2028 when Crisafulli really fucks things up,” Treasurer Cameron Milton Dick told us.
