Netanyahu heads to court

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he plans to seek an order from the International Criminal Court (ICC) for the arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The move has surprised political observers in Israel and around the world because of Mr Netanyahu’s previous and ongoing efforts to attack the legitimacy of the ICC when its chief prosecutor asked the court in May for a warrant to detain the Israeli and Hamas leaders to face charges of war crimes.

“My request to the court is totally different to the antisemitic action of the ICC against me,” Mr Netanyahu told reporters.

“My action against Putin seeks his arrest for breaching copyright by bombing a children’s hospital and then claiming it was justified because of the presence of enemy militants there.

“C’mon. That’s my shtick. Everyone knows that’s the line I use every day. Sometimes several times a day.

“Putin has no right to use that excuse just because he’s done in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities in recent days what I’ve done in Gaza – deliberately attack civilian targets, kill innocent people including many children, then turn around and claim it’s all okay because there were enemy forces there.

“The ICC must agree to arrest him for breach of my copyright. If it doesn’t people will rightly ask: Is there is no justice left in this world?” Mr Netanyahu said.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is expected to hold a second news conference today with Jewish lawyer and business leader Jillian Segal whom he announced yesterday as the nation’s first antisemitism envoy.

“I’ve taken advice since Tuesday’s announcement and today, just to make things very clear, I’ll be re-announcing Ms Segal’s appointment but this time as Australia’s anti-antisemitism envoy,” Mr Albanese said.

Troubled US-based Boeing aircraft corporation has recruited a well-known British sales expert to fatten its forward order book following revelations it sold only 14 new commercial jets in the month of June compared with 304 orders taken in June 2023.

Boeing, which faces court action and a public backlash after a series of fatal crashes and mid-air incidents mainly involving its 737-MAX models, said it had engaged UK-based used car sales legend Swiss Toni (below) to head its global sales team.

Mr Toni said he was looking forward to meeting the challenge of lifting Boeing’s sales.

“I’ve always thought that selling aircraft is very much like making love to a beautiful woman,” he said.

“Grab your joystick, check her flaps are in the right position, take her to heights she’s never been before and bring her in for a hard landing,” he said.
