Mystery boost for Muppets

Archived episodes of the online comedy series Statler and Waldorf: From the Balcony reportedly received record viewership numbers across the United States yesterday.

A spokesperson for the Muppet-based series, that originally ran for 34 episodes in 2005 and 2006, said there was so far no explanation for the spike in viewers that occurred for more than an hour from 9pm EDT on Thursday.

“It’s very odd and we are yet to explain what caused so many people to tune in to see two old dudes bickering with each other,” the spokesperson said.

“I am also at a loss to explain some of the viewer comments left on our website such as ‘Make American Great Again’ and ‘Go Joe!’ or ‘Wake up sleepy Joe!’.

“I guess it’s just our fans’ sense of humour,” the spokesperson said.

US President Joe Biden has attempted to bounce back from his poor performance in his debate with Donald Trump.

At a North Carolina rally for Democratic Party faithful Mr Biden said he may be old but he knew how to do the job of US President.

His upbeat performance pleased party officials with one saying: “Just make a few more speeches like that is what he needs to do.

“Maybe next time he could actually face the audience and not the back of the stage. Plus it would have been good if he had remembered to wear pants too.”

Fallback plans are still being made within the Democratic Party to enlist a fill-in candidate for president if Joe Biden ends up quitting or being dumped as its nominee.

Party powerbrokers are believed to be drawing up a list of possible replacements with lead contenders understood to be diminutive Kenyan-born actor Deep Roy and UK screen star Hugh Grant.

A Democratic Party spokesperson said both Roy and Grant would be ideal replacements and would give the party its best chance at winning against Donald Trump at the November elections.

“Both have played Oompa Loompas in Willy Wonka movies so they’re both at ease presenting as orange-skinned simpletons with really bad fake hair talking gibberish most of the time.

“We’d just need to sort out the constitutional prohibitions to their candidacy since they are both foreign-born, but we reckon the Supreme Court would wave them both through,” the spokesperson said.
