Trump argues debate rules

Donald Trump has clashed with organisers of today’s presidential debate over previously agreed rules banning the use of props.

The former US President and incumbent Joe Biden are facing off at the Atlanta studios of CNN in the first of a series of debates leading up to the November presidential election.

Trouble erupted soon after today’s debate started when CNN anchors Dana Bash and Jake Tapper challenged Mr Trump when he reached into his trousers for a large coil of human faeces (main picture) which he hurled at Mr Biden.

Mr Biden, looking hastily dressed, wearing a nightcap, and missing his false teeth, seemed not to notice the waste flung in his direction which narrowly missed him. (below)

When the CNN anchors stopped the debate to challenge Mr Trump, the former president argued that the faeces he used was his own which he had produced after entering the CNN studio and so did not meet the definition of a prop. He even feigned innocence over his attempt to throw it at the President.

“I just wanted to get rid of it,” he claimed. “The fact it almost hit corrupt, sleepy, senile, sex pest, shitty Joe Biden – who, by the way is not fit to lead our nation – was pure coincidence.”

The CNN hosts discussed the issue between themselves for a minute or so before allowing the debate to proceed but warned Mr Trump when he tried to reach into the back of his trousers again.

It was just one of several warnings issued to Mr Trump in the opening few minutes of the debate.

The anchors first warned him against making personal remarks when they had introduced themselves to viewers and Mr Trump could be heard muttering: “Yeah, I’d give that a bash. I’d tap her.”

Polls taken immediately after the incidents showed a sharp rise in support for Mr Trump among Republican voters.
