Sky set to clean up at Logies

A number of longstanding political satirists are vying for a new accolade being introduced at this year’s annual TV Week Logie Awards.

A spokesperson for TV Week, Noh Wun Waching, (below) said there was strong competition for the inaugural Best Political Comedy Performance Award to be presented at the Logies ceremony in Sydney in August.

“At this stage it looks like Sky News has a lock on the new award with four of its ‘after dark’ comedy stars dominating the list of finalists,” Ms Noh said.

“Andrew Bolt who fronts the side-splitting Bolt Report playing a far right-wing pundit spewing anti-Labor rhetoric that’s so tortured and illogical as to be hilariously ridiculous is just one of the finalists.

“He’s joined on the shortlist by Peta Credlin, star of the rib-tickling Credlin, who portrays a far right-wing pundit spewing anti-Labor rhetoric that’s so tortured and illogical as to be hilariously ridiculous.

“Paul Murray who stars in the wild and wacky Paul Murray Live as a far right-wing pundit spewing anti-Labor rhetoric that’s so tortured and illogical as to be hilariously ridiculous is another of the Sky stars in the running.

“Then there’s James Morrow who is part of the ensemble cast of The Outsiders who has been nominated for his role as a far right-wing pundit spewing anti-Labor rhetoric that’s so tortured and illogical as to be hilariously ridiculous.

“I understand that his co-stars Rita Panahi and Rowan Dean just missed out on also being nominated for their comedic efforts portraying far right-wing pundits spewing anti-Labor rhetoric that’s so tortured and illogical as to be hilariously ridiculous. Maybe next year for both of them?”

Ms Noh said there was widespread agreement about the winner of another new award being presented at this year’s Logies.

“Industry observers suggest there’s little doubt that the David Speers will pick up the Logie for Most Interruptions in Political Interviews, although the jury is still out on who’ll win for the new Best Interruptions in Political Interviews Award,” she said.

“David’s win will nominally be one for the ABC but effectively Sky can claim that one too.”
