Murdoch seals ABC takeover

MEDIA NEWS:

Evidence has emerged that Rupert Murdoch’s News Crap Australia has finalised a takeover of the nation’s national broadcaster, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Media industry watchers say significant hints about the so-far unannounced acquisition were evident on ABC News Breakfast and ABC News Online on Friday.

“All the signs are there that Rupert has been undertaking an incremental takeover. It started with Sky News alumnus David Speers being shoehorned into the Insiders hosting spot,” an industry insider who has never appeared on Insiders said.

“Plus we’ve seen more and more News Crap Australia righters populating the Insiders lounge seats and other gigs across the ABC.

“Just yesterday Prime Minister Anthony Albanese appeared on ABC News Breakfast and was forced to respond to Murdochesque questions about light-hearted but pointed social media memes uploaded by Labor MPs attacking Peter Dutton’s so-called policy on nuclear power.

“The show’s host Michael Rowland (far right at left in main picture) made a big deal out of the memes as if the Labor MPs had dug up the late Queen Elizabeth and shat in her handbag.

“He spent far too much time on that bullshit, and his questions echoed the fake outrage that News Crap Australia outlets have been pumping out about the memes to divert attention from the shoddiness of Dutton’s ‘policy’.

“Rowland fell for it, then dutifully parroted the News Crap lines so well that it was pretty clear that he may already be on the Murdoch payroll,” the industry source said.

Another media observer pointed to a story published by ABC News Online yesterday as further evidence of the takeover of the national broadcaster by the Murdoch empire.

“I was reading an ABC Online story and was taken by a heading (below) suggesting that a significant voice in the Australian business community was backing the Dutton ‘policy’,” the observer said.

“As the heading suggested this leading business identity was not concerned about the cost of the seven nuclear plants Dutton is proposing, even though no costings have been provided at all.

“How could a ‘business leader’ be unconcerned about the price tag when there is no price tag?

“It turns out that this ‘business leader’ was Ziggy Switkowski – longstanding nuclear power advocate and head of an inquiry into nuclear power commissioned by the Howard Government. Of course he’s in favour regardless of the cost.

“Describing him as a ‘business leader’ and allowing him to remain unconcerned about the price of the Dutton policy is something we’d expect of the Murdoch media, not the ABC.

“The Murdoch media has spent months citing supposed authoritative individuals telling us we should buy nuclear power plants, who turn out to be people selling nuclear power plants.

“So all the signs are there that Rupert has already taken over the ABC although I suspect that he hasn’t had to pay a cent for it which makes it is biggest and best deal of his life,” the observer said.
