News shows guile with news on Giles

Our Media Glass House researchers have noted that the Murdoch-owned far right national broadshit The Australian has been getting very hot and bothered this week over comments made by senior ABC reporter and commentator, Laura Tingle.

Ms Tingle, a very experienced political observer, dared to utter a handful of words about Opposition Leader Peter Dutton’s blatantly negative political tactics as well as offer her view on whether Australia as a whole is a racist nation or not.

In case you missed the kerfuffle, our MGH teams want you to know that she came down on the side of “is” not “not”.

The Australian – packed not just with writers, but Righters, who readily express their own views – saw red. Under the bed, as usual.

The world was about to stop spinning on its axis. The sky was in imminent danger of falling. All because of a bit of editorialising by an ABC staffer and board member. Or woke pro-Labor lefty as those at The Oz might describe her.

Editorialising instead of reporting is one of the crimes Ms Tingle is accused of committing by The Oz.

But our researchers had visions of pots and kettles – both black – enter their minds when they clapped eyes on Thursday’s edition of The Australian.

There right across the front page (main picture) is a headline that blatantly editorialises about the job security of the Immigration Minister Andrew Giles.

It leaves The Oz reader in no doubt that the paper thinks Mr Giles must go, either by quitting or being sacked for matters which we won’t canvass here.

The same approach – telling readers Giles must go not just the facts of what’s happening to him in Canberra – was taken on Thursday by The Daily Telegraph in Sydney and The Herald-Sun in Melbourne. (right and far right below)

The stories you see are meant to be news stories, yet the headline is an opinion. You know, sort of like what Ms Tingle uttered.

The so-called news stories in both turdbloids end with a pointer to an editorial deeper in the paper.

Too late, thought our MGH teams. Already done in the news pages.

Our MGH teams note that not every Murdoch turdbloid was so reckless, or hypocritical.

For instance The Advertiser in Adelaide found a factual, neutral headline did the job. (below)

Even Brisbane’s daily turdbloid The Courier-Mail (below) – which our MGH teams regularly accuse of editorialising in headlines – did not go as far as its Sydney and Melbourne or national stablemates.

So, as our MGH teams summarise the situation, The Oz is free as usual to accuse everyone else of crimes it commits itself.

News Crap Australia will continue to attack people like Ms Tingle who express opinions based on facts while it feels free to publish opinion masquerading as facts.

Yes, we’re looking at you Sky News and all those “news” stories you upload that consist entirely of reheated far-right diatribes spewed by your “after dark” commentators.

Finally, our MGH teams think Ms Tingle should consider herself lucky not have had the charge of antisemitism thrown at her as well. It’s the slur du jour at The Oz right now.
