TEL AVIV: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (main picture) has described the deadly airstrike by the Israeli Defence Force on a camp in Rafah sheltering displaced Palestinians as “a tragic mistake”.
“We need to do much, much better,” Mr Netanyahu said. “I mean the IDF can’t waste good ammo killing only 45 innocent people including many women and children while injuring just 200.
“That’s a tragic mistake. I’m certain we could have killed many, many more.
“I mean we told them to head south to Rafah for good reason after bombing and killing thousands in the north of Gaza, and then we drop the ball?
“I’ll definitely be asking questions about this,” Mr Netanyahu said.

WASHINGTON DC: A White House spokesperson says US President Joe Biden is likely to respond forcefully to the Rafah air strike.
“The President has warned Israel repeatedly that if such deadly offensives continue in Rafah then he will ban the use of US weapons by Israel,” the spokesperson said.
When asked if the latest fatalities would prompt such action, the spokesperson said: “Well, obviously we first must wait to see if such deadly incidents taking innocent lives do continue.
“But rest assured, if they do continue to occur then the President will have no hesitation in continuing to issue warnings to Israel about banning its use of US weapons before again waiting to see if they continue.”

SYDNEY: Senior editorial staff from News Crap Australia plan to hold a vigil against antisemitism in the wake of the Rafah camp bombardment.
“We will continue to call out the antisemitism in all its forms that has erupted across Australia and around the world since the Israel-Hamas war began in October,” a company spokesperson said.
“Yet again in the Rafah incident we see the ugly face of antisemitism right on Israel’s doorstep as Palestinian suicide squads including young children deliberately use what is meant to be a safe zone to throw themselves in front of IDF bombs and missiles.”
