MEDIA NEWS:
News Crap Australia is believed to have sealed at least one win, if not many more, in this year’s prestigious Walkley Awards for journalism even before nominations open.
Members of the 2024 judging panel recently appointed by the Walkley Foundation have already held an extraordinary meeting which agreed that News Crap Australia would be given awards in a range of categories and most likely the major Gold Walkley Award for its coverage last week of new flavours for the popular Kit Kat chocolate treat.
A source within the judging panel said all judges agreed that News Crap Australia should – and would – be recognised at the awards ceremony later this year for acknowledging the essential news value of the development of new Kit Kat flavours.
“We were all very impressed with the Murdoch media’s treatment of this big breaking story especially the lengthy online news story on news.com.au (below) as well as efforts by News Crap turdbloids such as Brisbane’s daily The Courier-Mail which gave the story a prominent place on its highly prized page two hard-news showcase. “Judges were unanimous in deciding that whatever nominations arrive in coming months, they will be hard pressed to prevent what could well be a clean sweep of award categories by the Kit Kat yarn.
“This development means all judges will have fairly light duties this year and from now until the winners are announced they’ll be able to pretty much put their feet up.
“The Kit Kat story truly does epitomise the Walkleys’ goal of benchmarking quality, best practice and ethical reporting by recognising and promoting excellence in the craft of Australian journalism.
“It also says a lot about News Crap’s dedication to those standards. The judges agreed that it made all of us proud to be Australians.
“Our only regret was that Rupert Murdoch couldn’t experience that same feeling,” the source said.
