New airline set to land

AVIATION:

As speculation swirls about the future of budget domestic airline Bonza (below) another carrier is ready to take off to cement its place in  the nation’s former low-fare airline market.

Doubts about the future of Bonza have grown today following news that the airline, which launched in January 2023, has cancelled numerous flights.

But another new airline says it is ready to fill the void if Bonza goes under.

Ann Regsett, spokesperson for ILA, an acronym of In Liquidation Airlines, (main picture) said it was “ready, willing, and able” to take over from Bonza.

“The Australian airline industry has always reserved space for a promising, low-fare start-up which declares its intentions to challenge the Qantas/Virgin duopoly and the Qantas/Ansett duopoly prior to that,” Ms Regsett said.

“Inevitably new airlines begin operating with great fanfare but then crash – thankfully not literally – pretty soon after their inaugural flight,” the spokesperson said.

“Bonza is just the latest, but if it’s grounded then ILA is ready to swoop in and repeat the process.

“We reckon we can go broke much, much faster than any previous low-fare carrier.

“That’s why we chose our name. It also helped us decide on our marketing slogan: ‘Fly ILA while you can.’

“What you see is what you get,” Ms Regsett said.

She said ILA hoped to set new records for Australian low-fare carriers.

“We believe if we work hard enough we might be able to declare our bankruptcy soon after our first scheduled flight takes off, maybe even before it lands at its destination.”
