Before we begin this first tranche of our Xcrements of the past week, let’s make one thing clear. The Bug totally condemns social mediocre platforms that allow violent criminal acts to stay online. Elon Musk’s fuck-you to Australia’s request to remove from his failing X site the knife attack on that Sydney priest and supposedly similar horrifically graphic imagery from the Bondi Junction murders that we thankfully have not seen, is utterly deplorable.
And hopefully, the Australian government can enact laws to rein in Musk who is taking the concept of free speech to obscene limits.
But this column is devoted to looking at major mainstream media scribes who continue to pour shit on X, Facebook and other platforms and, by omission, give us the impression that all is fine and dandy with what passes for our nation’s MSM at the moment.
And our Excrement judges noticed how readily the ABC Insiders host David Speers and panellists Phillip Coorey and Samantha Maiden all sunk the boot into that dreadful forum, online social media and the citizen journalists on it.
They had only criticism for these platforms. The violent images that were not taken down immediately. The cookers and nutters with their conspiracy theories and racist views on who was responsible for the NSW knife attacks. Not one word about the many people on X who railed against these right-wing nut jobs and denounced them in the strongest terms. Dare we say some modicum of balance you won’t be seeing from The Courier-Mail come October’s Queensland state election. Or next to ever on Sky News?
The bottom line is that the likes of Speers, Coorey and Maiden think the mainstream media is doing a stella job. Ditto for just about anyone who works for News Corp Australia that dominates the media landscape in this country. Ditto for Nine’s radio shockjocks, whoever steers the political content on Nine and Seven news bulletins and, sadly if the truth be known, far too many at the ABC.
And this column is devoted to those who call BULLSHIT on that. Perhaps it was the clever meme but our Xcrement judges gave this week’s gong to Allan Green (at top and below)

amante2 and Doug Cameron joined the fray…

JayJay roped Peter Dutton into the discussion while Peter Murphy also reflected on just who controls the mainstream mediocre in Oz at the moment and gave the much-maligned social media citizen journalists a thumbs-up in the process.

And less we forget just how low the mainstream media can go despite it being so admired by the likes of Coorey, Maiden and Speers, Jenny Frecklington-Jones etc, etc, and Mark used X to remind us of just one past scandal involving one of the Dirty Digger’s organs. No, not that one! One of the other ones that get him into trouble.

TOMORROW: Peter Dutton cops a nuclear blast or two, Linda Reynolds cops a bucket or two and our Xers have some fun with new jobs for Peter Van Onselen and Chris Uhlmann, ones for which they may be over-qualified.
