Virgin Airlines goes to the dogs

AIR TRAVEL:

Virgin Australia Airlines says public response to its plans allowing some dogs to fly with their owners in the passenger cabin has prompted further changes to its fares and travel classes.

Last month outgoing Virgin Australia CEO, Jayne Hrdlicka, (main picture) announced that small dogs would soon be able to travel in the passenger cabin under strict conditions.

“We’ve had such a tremendously positive response to our announcement that we now plan to go further,” Ms Hrdlicka said.

“We’ll soon be allowing dogs of any size to fly in the passenger cabin even if their owner is not flying with them.”

Ms Hrdlicka said Virgin would also be introducing an entirely new class of travel on all of its domestic aircraft.

“In addition to economy, premium economy, and business class we’ll be adding our new ‘Who’s a Good Doggie?’ class,” she said.

“The new travel class will enable canine passengers to access the dedicated pre-flight lounges we are currently building at our capital city airport terminals.

“These will be largely outdoor grassed areas to enable passengers to go walkies, urinate, or void their bowels before boarding.

“If they do need to relive themselves after take-off (below) and in line with our business model we’ll be imposing a small cost to take care of their waste.

“But rest assured we’ll be setting our RCCC, or rancid coil clean-up charge, at what we believe will be an affordable level.

“We’ve also installed special stain-resistant carpets for our passenger cabins for when our newest passengers inevitably drag their worm-riddled coits down the aisle,” Ms Hrdlicka said.
