Our Media Glass House research teams were bemused at a couple of yarns published by News Crap Australia turdbloids on Thursday.
They were bemused because both stories say something about the news values at News.
The first was a rather large picture story in both the Melbourne Herald-Sun and The Advertiser in Adelaide. (left and right below)

It took up a considerable amount of value editorial space on the inside news pages of both papers.
But what was the point of it, asked our MGH researchers?
It started off talking about two particular woman – mother and daughter – posing together in swimwear on a beach, the name of which was not clearly disclosed.
But the stories did disclose that the photos were taken for a particular brand of women’s swimwear.
Reading on, our researchers found that the snaps were taken at one of the women’s favourite but still unnamed places.
Turns out that the mother in the pics is the ex-wife of a Melbourne AFL identity, hence the publication of the supposed “news” story in the Melbourne and Adelaide fishwrappers.
So according to one theory put forward by our MGH teams the “news” story ran because the two women are related to an Aussie rules player, and a lot of Aussie rules fans are blokes who don’t mind looking at women in bathing suits, so those blokes will buy the papers.
The other theories range from an attempt at bringing back page 3 girls, to some sort of deal with a possible advertiser.
Regardless of which it is, our MGH teams are still asking themselves the same overarching deep philosophical question they posed when first reading the story: “WTF is that about?”

The other item in News Crap papers featuring a woman that caught the eyes of our MGH teams was the item below which appeared on page 7 of Thursday’s edition of Murdoch’s daily Brisbane turdbloid The Courier-Mail.

It told Brisbane readers about a Melbourne female business identity who fronted up at Government House in Melbourne on Wednesday to receive her Member of the Award from Victorian Governor Margaret Gardner.
A similar story ran in Melbourne’s daily turdbloid The Herald-Sun on Wednesday on page 6. (below)

The woman receiving the award was Penny Fowler who happens to be chair of the Herald and Weekly Times company – part of the Murdoch media empire.
That fact was noted in The Courier-Mail’s story but not in the Herald’s yarn even though it is in the direct line of responsibility for the paper’s publication.
Now don’t get us wrong. We congratulate Ms Fowler on her award for her various roles supporting a range of charitable and community groups and causes.
But why run a story, especially in a Brisbane publication, about a Melbourne woman whose award was actually announced in the New Year’s Honours List back in January?
Surely there were other award recipients at the Wednesday event who would make an equal or better subject for a news story.
“But wait. What’s that?” our MGH researchers cried after reading both stories very closely.
There in the Herald’s story was a line missing from the Courier’s version. This is it……

Mystery solved. As one of our more disrespectful MGH researchers put it: “Why can’t a nepo niece make the news? It is News after all.”

Here is very short item to end this edition of our Media Glass House.
It’s a warning from our MGH teams to blokes like the one featured in the story below in yesterday’s Brisbane Courier-Mail.

They suggest that, following the recent outcome of a rather high-profile court case, young men who look a bit or a lot like the star of that particular legal shit show should change their appearance very quickly before venturing out in public, especially if they plan to go near any women.
