CANBERRA: Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is not expecting a swag of ministerial resignations across his desk today, including his own, in the wake of his government being described as “not fair dinkum” by one of this nation’s most trusted and respected politics opinionistas.
In a stinging rebuke that Albanese and his colleagues clearly have not taken seriously at their peril, Sky LNPNews host Paul Murray thundered that the Albanese government was “not fair dinkum” as they wanted a surplus so they can tell Australians to “trust us when it comes to the economy”.
His comments were included in a short, sharp, story posted online by Sky LNPNews that explained that Treasurer Jim Chalmers had said a second surplus is ‘still our goal’ a month out from the federal budget, during a time ‘when Australians are facing a cost-of-living crisis’.
“This bloke, who could choose to cut your petrol taxes, instead is trying to go for a surplus and, apparently, a modest and smaller one than last year,” Murray spat out.
“All so they can go to an election and say trust us when it comes to the economy.”
Our trusted source in the prime minister’s office told us: “You at least have to admire the decision by the PM and his ministers to put this criticism aside and just carry on regardless.
“They certainly got some nerve.
“In media circles, a stinging rebuke by Paul Murray is generally regarded as politically fatal for those he’s set his sights on as a newsman highly respected nationwide for his professionalism and balanced views.
