….VERY HURT INDEED!
Nine News Queensland has wilfully, deliberately, ignored this column’s call yesterday to sack whoever writes their 6pm bulletin promos during Tipping Point Australia.
Our dismissal call came after dear, dear Andrew Lofthouse was forced to do a voiceover towards the end of TPA on Tuesday night, declaring that the cost blowout for a Gold Coast tramline extension could be “even worse” than the Woolloongabba Cricket Ground rebuild that isn’t happening anyway. (link at bottom)

Well, whoever writes those shit, inaccurate, often politically biased, promos was at it again last night.
Example one, not political: The victim of a home invasion had his hand cut off. The actual bulletin: his hand was partly severed. Remember when facts mattered in journalism?
Example two, very political: There was “fury” over the wages and conditions the Miles state government is paying workers on its infrastructure projects! Was there any fury? None at all. the bloke from Master Builders (at top) was far from furious when he calmly explained that project bids would have to be increased to cover these workers’ payments and benefits and that Queenslanders would pay the price for that. Calm, measured, comments.
The person who was furious was the one who writes these promos; furious, apparently, that we have a Labor government in Queensland paying workers far too much to work in rain or hot weather.
We mentioned yesterday how spot-on one of our MGH compilers was when he turned to his better half before Tuesday night’s 6pm bulletin began and said: “It will make no mention at all of the Gabba rebuild!”
But he got it wrong last night. He suspected the “fury” that would be exposed when the story was aired was the fury expressed by Opposition Leader David Crisafulli or his deputy Jarrod Bleijie, clasping their blue and gold five-point-plan booklets.
He might have got it wrong but he had history on his side. MGH reported once that a promo during Millionaire Hot Seat declared that Queenslanders were furious over something the former Palaszczuk government had done. Yep. The furious Queenslanders turned out to be Opposition Leader David Crisafulli and his deputy Jarrod Bleijie!
And whoever wrote the spiel that Melissa Downes had to read out for last night’s story is not blameless either. Downes: “Extraordinary new perks for workers, including double time when it’s raining”. Premier Miles repeatedly stated that what the workers were getting were in standard, existing, enterprise bargaining agreements. Miles could be telling porkies, of course, but we at the MGH instinctively knew the angle Nine News preferred to lead with.
You couldn’t make all of this shit up. But Nine LNPNews Queensland can. It rarely misses an opportunity to stick the knife into state Labor as they work to get their man (below) into power come October.
As we said in yesterday’s column: Nine Entertainment Co. chair Peter Costello must be very proud indeed of how Nine LNPNews Queensland is performing. Not that he gives a flying fuck about competent, objective, professional journalism.
