Bunnings turns the corner
In a world exclusive, The Bug has obtained secret plans by Bunnings Warehouses Australia on how they will adjust their marketing strategies and store designs if a protracted war ever breaks out with China.
We can reveal for the first time that the hardware giant has been buying up vacant corner stores and milk bars around the country, including a trial store now being fitted out in Geelong in Victoria (below).

We have seen an internal memo from Bunnings that states: “Corner stores such as this one should be able to still provide our loyal customer base with all of their trade and home DIY needs if stock from China should ever dry up due to any international conflict that may or may not happen any time now”.

Retail chain Spotlight has completed in record time a subtle partial rebranding of its network of outlets across Australia.
A company spokesperson said the decision to undertake the minor adjustment to the frontages of the fabric, home decor, and craft supplies retailer (below) was made only last week.

“But we are convinced that the changes we have made were necessary as well as being urgent to maintain the good name of our business and its product range,” the spokesperson said.

Consumer watchdog, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says it is investigating both Coles and Woolworths supermarkets for potential collusion in the post-Easter marketing of some bakery items.
An ACCC spokesperson said the commission had been flooded with complaints by shoppers claiming they had been “ripped off” by both supermarket chains in the days after Easter.
“The complaints centre on the efforts by both Coles and Woolworths to market what both labelled as ‘special Elon Musk buns’,” the spokesperson said.
“In-store marketing materials used by both chains claimed the buns were ‘specially baked for users of the X – formerly Twitter” which is owned by Mr Musk.
“However, initial investigations by ACCC revealed the goods were merely leftover hot-cross buns arranged on bakery counters at a 45-degree angle. Plus they were being sold at a big mark-up on Easter prices.
“Our investigations are continuing,” the spokesperson said.
