Netanyahu expresses regret

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed his “deep personal regret” over the deaths of seven foreign aid workers including an Australian in a targeted Israeli Defence Force (IDF) strike.

Mr Netanyahu admitted that the IDF was responsible for the deaths of the seven workers attached to food relief organisation World Central Kitchen.

“Given those circumstances I can only express my deep personal regret that this incident occurred,” Mr Netanyahu said.

“I mean, what a waste of IDF ammo. We could have wiped out many, many more Palestinian innocent men, women, and children than just seven if the IDF had targeted another hospital or school instead of a food convoy.”

Senior editorial staff at News Crap Australia’s national broadshit The Australian have immediately swung into action in the wake of the aid workers’ deaths.

A spokesperson  said The Australian and its stable of columnists and commentators would be taking a very strong editorial line on the deaths in coming days.

“We will be calling out the deliberate manner in which an aid organisation wilfully tried to hamper Israel’s right to defend itself by putting seven people in front of brave IDF soldiers’ missiles, bullets, and rockets.

“This type of UNRWA-style sabotage cannot be tolerated,” the spokesperson said.

A White House spokesperson says US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will be summoning Israel’s ambassador to outline America’s response to the deadly strike on the World Central Kitchen convoy.

The spokesperson said following previous similar incidents Mr Blinken and past Secretaries of State had traditionally “not held back” in verbally outlining to Israeli representatives America’s displeasure or disappointment at Israel’s actions that have caused the deaths of innocent individuals.

“But this latest incident has prompted Mr Blinken to go even further than a verbal dressing down,” the spokesperson said.

“He has ordered that special, rarely used, diplomatic equipment (below) be brought from the State Department building’s basement to his office.

“Mr Blinken has made no secret of his willingness to use the equipment to physically impress upon the Israeli ambassador exactly how the US feels.”
