The Brisbane Bolts says it has assured the JDG that there is no truth to suggestions of rampant cocaine use among its players.
Acting JDG chair, Sir Phyllis “Pussy” Bush, (below) has written to all affiliated clubs seeking assurances that they are enforcing the national “no player caught with drugs” policy.
His message to clubs said he was concerned that the JDG should not be tainted by recent adverse publicity over drug use in other sporting codes.
Senior recruitment and player development officer with the Bolts, Anthony Montana, (main picture) said he had been delegated to respond to Sir Phyllis.

“I’ve already written to him, or her, and advised that the Bolts certainly place top priority on not having any of our players caught with drugs,” Mr Montana said.
“From day one when I go out talent-spotting junior players in the changing rooms and showers of high schools, unis, or suburban JDG clubs I always stress the need for them not to get caught with drugs.
“I say the same to young players that I might be considering signing up to play for the Bolts.
“First thing to do is to make the young blokes feel at ease, so I shout them all a coke and we’re soon off and running, sometimes up the walls.
“But I also take the opportunity to teach them the overriding need never to get caught,” Mr Montana said. “And from talking to my peers at other JDG clubs around the nation, that’s the same approach they’ve always taken.”
In a short statement to reporters outside the Brisbane Bolts clubhouse, the club’s, Terry Verandah, said Mr Montana’s statement proved the club was adhering to JDG policy.
“Now get out of my way or I’ll cut you you pack of maggot coits into slices,” Mr Verandah said while walking swiftly to his car and swinging wildly at reporters with a knife he drew from his back pocket.
Head coach of the Brisbane Bolts, Jack Saunders, said illicit drug use by any sports stars who doubled as national role models should be viewed as “a minor matter”.
“It’s just a bit of hi-jinks – just some good-natured horseplay,” Saunders said.
