Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Queensland Premier Steven Miles are both set to resign their commissions early tomorrow after withering criticism from one of Australian journalism’s finest and most highly respected political minds ever.
The PM is due to fly into Canberra early on Monday and make the short trip to see the Governor-General at Yarralumla. Miles will make a similar grip to Paddington in Brisbane’s inner-west to terminate his time at the state’s leader with a short, humble letter to the state governor.
Their decisions to call it a day follow stinging criticism from Paul Murray, host of SkyLNP NEWS on March 6, which began with this deadly, indefensible volley, questioning “what else the Queensland government lies about in light of Steven Miles misleading parliament”.
Murray: “What rubbish, I am smart enough to be the premier, but I am not smart enough to remember the communication that was fairly lengthy with your own MP when you were trying to change the subject inside parliament,” Mr Murray said.
“So, he remembers the Question Time, he just doesn’t remember what he did in the Question Time.
“He lied to parliament, and he should be out of his job tonight.
“If they are willing to lie about stuff like this, what else do they lie about?”

A person in Miles’ inner circle said: “Steven can cop a lot of flak. Channel 9 News did exactly the same thing, calling him a liar despite the Premer’s claim that he had simply forgotten about sending the email. Such a defence from an LNP pollie would have been perfectly acceptable to the great bulk of our MSM. Wouldn’t have even been a story in it.
“Steven can cop that from Nine News Queensland because it’s even less effective than The Courier-Mail in shaping public opinion.
“But when Sky News Australia (sic) and someone of Murray’s stature and deep respect calls the Premier out, well, at least the Premier’s man enough to know the game is up and it’s time to give someone else a chance to try to win a fourth-term.”
A spokesperson for Albanese said his leader had realised much the same thing.
“Murray’s online attack was entirely about Miles yet Sky News Australia (sic) used the PM’s image.
“It’s clear they are never going to forgive him for breaking that iron-clad election promise back in 2022 to not touch the third-tier income tax changes.
“And how’s that “what else do they lie about?” for the most brilliant of questions! The PM knew there’s no answer to that that Australian voters are going to accept.
“The PM looked us all over and muttered softly: ‘Murray’s got me in his sights and the only noble thing for me to do step aside and give one of my Cabinet colleagues the unenviable task of trying to achieve an impossible second term.
