New regular joins Bluey cast

Today I can reveal exclusively to readers of The Bug that an upcoming bumper episode of the globally popular Australian-made Bluey cartoon series will introduce a new character.

The episode titled The Sign airs on ABC TV on 14 April and runs to 28 minutes – four times as long as an average Bluey.

News has already broken that the new episode will feature its regular cast but will also include guest characters voiced by Australian actors and comedians including Joel Edgerton, Deborah Mailman, and Rove McManus. (below)

But the big news that I can break is that the blockbuster episode will introduce a new regular character called Barnaby. (main picture)

Insiders at the Brisbane-based Ludo Studios which makes Bluey tell me Barnaby will be a regular presence in future episodes.

“Barnaby is a loveable rogue who’s a bit overweight and gets into all sorts of scrapes on a regular basis, speaks mainly gibberish, and can’t help dry humping anything that’s not nailed down,” one insider said.

“He also enjoys a beer or two dozen on a hot day and on a cold day he’ll also enjoy a beer or two dozen.

“But in his first appearance Barnaby is diagnosed with sleep apnoea and high blood pressure which he says explains his behaviour and he asks everyone else to feel sorry for him after he’s found off his chops on a public footpath.

“We think the episode will convey a very special message to kids about the importance of a healthy sleeping routine and the need to have an adequate amount of sleep each night.

“Oh, and it’ll also teach them that they shouldn’t go out, get goatfaced in public, fall down drunk, and blame it on their medication,” the insider said.
