PM’S PROPOSAL:
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced that he used Valentine’s Day yesterday to propose marriage to his partner Jodie Haydon. The Bug sought reaction this morning from his fellow political practitioners and observers.

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton: “This announcement is yet another mark of failure by the Prime Minister. He has had almost two years in office to ask Jodie Haydon to marry him and he failed to do so. Only now does he act in the shadow of a federal by-election in Dunkley.”

Former deputy prime minister and former National Party leader, Barnaby Joyce: “I’ll drink to that!”

Peta Credlin, Sky News and News Crap Australia commentator: “This announcement is yet another mark of failure by the Prime Minister. He has had almost two years in office to ask Jodie Haydon to marry him and he failed to do so. Only now does he act in the shadow of a federal by-election in Dunkley.”

Former prime minister Scott Morrison: “Jenny and I spoke and she said to me, you have to think about this as a father. What would you want to happen if it were our girls? Jenny has a way of clarifying things. Always has.”

Andrew Bolt, Sky News and News Crap Australia commentator: “This announcement is yet another mark of failure by the Prime Minister. He has had almost two years in office to ask Jodie Haydon to marry him and he failed to do so. Only now does he act in the shadow of a federal by-election in Dunkley.”

Former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull: “I won’t go into details but I take full credit for this happy news. I wish Albo and whatshername all the best.”

James Morrow, Sky News and News Crap Australia commentator: “This announcement is yet another mark of failure by the Prime Minister. He has had almost two years in office to ask Jodie Haydon to marry him and he failed to do so. Only now does he act in the shadow of a federal by-election in Dunkley.”

Shadow Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, Michaelia Cash: “This is a typical Labor Party stunt. Of course Labor would deliver this sort of gimmick just before the Dunkley byelection and have its leader become engaged just as the parliament is debating the right to disengage.”
