Former deputy prime minister and former National Party leader, Barnaby Joyce, arrived at Canberra Airport this morning (main picture) insisting that he had nothing to explain about his behaviour last week when he was caught on camera at night flat on his back swearing into his mobile phone in Canberra’s entertainment precinct.
Speaking to reporters at the airport where he said he had fallen off a planter box, although none was apparent in the concourse, Mr Joyce said it was presumptive of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to ask him to explain last week’s incident.
“I’ve got nothing to explain,” he insisted to reporters. “I fell off a planter box, just as I did this morning immediately before you caught up with me here at the airport.
“If you don’t believe me and you think I have anything to hide, then you can follow me and see for yourself.”
Reporters agreed among themselves to do just that and tailed Mr Joyce on his journey from the airport to Parliament House at Capital Hill.
His trip was broken by a short stop he made at a shopping centre off Kings Avenue in the suburb of Barton.
There reporters found Mr Joyce sprawled on the floor of the centre. (below)

He explained that he had stopped at the shopping centre “for supplies for the sitting week” and had fallen off a planter box although once again none could be seen nearby.
Mr Joyce continued to Parliament House where he again was seen sprawled on the floor which he attributed to a fall from a planter box (below) although none could be seen in the building’s main entrance hall.

When asked to comment on Mr Joyce’s behaviour, Opposition Leader Peter Dutton laid the blame at the foot of the Albanese Government.
“Anthony Albanese and Labor have had almost two years to do something about planter box safety yet they’ve done nothing,” Mr Dutton said.
“I said after the 2022 election that Labor would fail and its inaction on planter boxes is yet more proof of that.”
