MEDIA:
The ABC’s 7.30 host Sarah Ferguson has issued an unconditional and clearly heartfelt apology for the way she handled Wednesday night’s interview with federal Opposition Leader Peter Dutton.
“Clearly I’m no Ray Hadley, Paul Murray or Ben Fordham and all I can promise to do is be more like them in future,” the veteran TV journalist said in a video statement, her voice wavering at times and continually dabbing tears from her eyes (above).
“I simply don’t know what came over me and my attempts at a gotcha moment over the Opposition’s backflip on the Albanese government’s stage-three tax cut changes quite rightly sparked Mr Dutton’s rebuke that the ABC was biased and left-wing and his personal attacks on my professionalism were spot on.
“I’ve got to learn that viewers want to hear politicians’ responses to questions not to constant, frivolous, pathetic attempt at point-scoring interruptions from me.
“I’ve given ABC management my commitment in future to ask Mr Dutton and, of course, all of his shadow ministry, cream-puff, supportive questions just like Ray, Paul, Ben and many others do and then just sit there, wetting my pants with admiration as Ray, Paul and Ben and many others do at their LNP interview guests’ amazing political insights and powerful putdowns of the Albanese government, to which they all heartily agree.
“And just like them, I’ll be welcoming ‘Australia’s next prime minister’ back on the program whenever they want.”

“Basically, I’ve accepted it’s time I finally woke up to myself and I’ve pledged to both ABC chair Ita Buttrose and MD David Anderson that I’ll be practising fair and balance journalism from now on.”
STOP PRESS: ABC Weekend Breakfast presenter Fauziah Ibrahim has issued a statement congratulating her work colleague for her “refreshingly honest mea culpa”.
“I know Sarah and she has the capacity to change. Coming across on the TV screen as a fair, balanced and professional journalist simply doesn’t come easily. You have to work hard at it otherwise you’ll cop criticism from lobotomised shitheads and others,”
