In an unexpected response to a question from Carlson about the coming Russian presidential election, Putin gave an uncharacteristic emotional answer breaking the news of the death of anti-war politician Boris Nadezhdin who just yesterday had his nomination as a candidate for the March election rejected by government officials.
In a translated exchange, Carlson appeared caught off guard by the news and followed up by asking Putin when his rival candidate had died.
“Some time next week I believe,” Putin replied.

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton says left-wing media outlets in Australia should instruct all of their reporters to watch and take note of the interviewing style of Tucker Carlson.
“There is certainly a need for Australian media reporters – in particular those at the ABC and The Guardian Australia – to learn from the world’s best such as Mr Carlson or anyone on the Murdoch media’s Fox News for that matter,” Mr Dutton said.
“A good start would be for them to watch Mr Carlson’s upcoming grilling of Russian leader Vladimir Putin. I’m sure it will be a textbook example of how to do it.
“They should also try to follow the impeccable lead of our own Murdoch media’s Sky News after dark commentators.
“In my experience all Sky after dark hosts, just like Mr Carlson, take the Right approach to political interviews by eliminating unnecessary elements such as facts, and irrelevant interruptions of an interviewee’s monologue,” Mr Dutton said.

A controversial union official with a reputation as an uncompromising and confrontational “hard man” is calling quits on his career.
John Setka announced yesterday that he was retiring as secretary of the Victorian and Tasmanian branch of the CFMEU.
Mr Setka said he would not be recontesting his position at union elections later this year.
He told a Melbourne radio station: “It’s a young person’s game, to be quite honest and it takes a big toll on you.”
Mr Setka said he was happy to retire so that he could devote more time to his real passions – ikebana, cake decorating, and jazz ballet. (below)
