Dutton blames Labor for sale fail

AUSTRALIA DAY WASH-UP:

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton says more “indisputable and devastating evidence” has emerged of the Albanese Government’s mismanagement of the Australian economy.

“It’s clear from this new evidence that Anthony Albanese and Labor have failed to deliver on their promises to strengthen the economy and help out people struggling with Labor’s cost-of-living crisis,” he said.

Mr Dutton said the new evidence emerged at the weekend when he held a garage sale at his Dayboro property north of Brisbane to dispose of Australia Day paraphernalia he had bought in the lead-up to last Friday’s public holiday.

“Nobody turned up, so nothing was sold despite me doing my best to promote the garage sale,” he said. (main picture)

“This is yet more indisputable and devastating evidence that Australians are struggling under the Albanese Government.

“What else could possibly explain the fact that nobody wanted to buy big inflatable hands printed with an Australian flag, many pairs of thongs also decorated with Australian flags, and stacks of bucket hats printed with Australian flags, snow globes of Ayers Rock decorated with an Australian flag, as well as lots of other paraphernalia featuring an Australian flag including Australian flags.

“They were all cheap as chips but didn’t sell clearly because nobody could afford them because they have been so badly hit by Labor’s cost-of-living crisis,” he said.

When asked what he intended to do with the Australia Day material, Mr Dutton ruled out keeping it in storage to be used again in January 2025 or future years.

“No, I won’t be doing that simply because none of it will last that long,” he explained. “In fact I had a lot more of the stuff but most of it fell apart, deflated, or otherwise broke before Australia Day or on the day itself which, again, is Labor’s fault.”
