Back to the future for Rupert

If there was any doubt that Rupert Murdoch will repeat his rimming of Donald Trump for the purpose of attracting eyeballs and advertising dollars to the far-right open sewer he operates in the USA under the name of Fox News, they should go online and read a comment piece in his national daily broadshit The Australian.

It was an op-ed by The Oz’s Washington correspondent Adam Creighton, not about Trump himself but looking at the decision by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s decision to drop out of the Republican Party presidential nomination contest. (below)

In it Creighton basically argued that DeSantis had a lacklustre campaign, made the right call to drop out, but should be US President one day in the future after Trump – whom he described as “a flawed genius” – has another turn in the Oval Office.

DeSantis’s time would come, he said, and justified the far-right wing Trump-light’s future residency in the White House  on his “impressive” economic and political achievements such as how he “stared down destructive COVID regulations” (read: ignored professional medical and scientific advice to grovel to far-right win anti-vaxers and assorted nut jobs), and “empowered parents in schools” (read: bowed down to and encouraged book burners and far-right wing anti-diversity operatives).

Creighton believes “it was a smart move by DeSantis to bow out before the New Hampshire primary and endorse Trump”.

Why? Because, as he wrote, DeSantis “is back in Trump’s good books after what had been an increasingly vicious slanging match”.

Well, of course keeping the malignant, dangerously shallow orange baboon happy is all that matters in the Murdoch-backed racist Republican Party these days.

If you can hear a faint noise in the background it’s the late Sir Winston Churchill spinning in his grave in the UK after DeSantis used one of the world’s genuine political legend’s quotes to justify his withdrawal.

Creighton makes no comment about the complete hypocrisy and narcissism of a low-rent sleazy far-right Trump enabler and imitator stitching himself to someone of Churchill’s ilk.

Add to this sort of PR for Trump-style politics the softball treatment Trump has been given by Fox News (below) already in this campaign and its plain that Rupert is yet again prioritising ratings and advertising revenue ahead of truth and decency in the 2024 race by promoting the person who tried to destroy US democracy.

The regular reader of The Bug would know that our MGH teams have previously raised on many, many occasions the appearance in News Crap Australia’s metro daily turdbloids of puff pieces – let’s be frank, advertisements – masquerading as news stories about programs or “personalities” at its corporate relative Sky News.

This happened yet again at the start of this week when “news” stories ran in several News Crap Australia outlets about a new app enabling Sky News fans to access the seemingly endless stream of far-right wing rantings of the seemingly endless stream of far-right wing Sky “after dark” Liberal Party apparatchiks dressed up as political commentators. (at right below)

The Courier-Mail in Brisbane cut straight to the chase and just ran a full-page ad. Same thing as the “news” story, really. (at far right below)

Our MGH teams have regularly complained that none of these type of stories…. sorry, these type of thinly veiled advertisements make readers aware of the corporate connection between the outlet in question and News Crap Australia-owned Sky News.

But our MGH researchers noticed something very different in the “news” stories. It was this……

Our MGH teams make no claim of responsibility for this refreshing addition, but sincerely hope that the inclusion of such disclaimers continues.
