The Israeli Government has clarified statements originally attributed to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suggesting he opposed a two-state solution to the war in Gaza.

A government spokesperson said it was evident from reports of Mr Netanyahu’s comments that there had been some misunderstanding of his position.

“We wish to make it very clear that Prime Minister Netanyahu is doing all he possibly can to  see people in this part of the region in two states – Israelis alive and Palestinians dead,” the spokesperson explained.
