Been quite some time since I’ve dusted off my “albo and jim in dunces caps” graphic to once again push my view that these two dunces – clowns, klutzes, schmucks, mugs, morons – use your own appropriate word! – should have axed those third-tier personal income tax cuts a week after they won the May 2022 election.
I won’t reiterate how un-Labor these tax cuts are. Here’s a taste from the X platform over recent times that nails much of that compelling central argument.

The bottom line is that Albanese and Chalmers could have fronted the media a week after their poll victory, pointed the LNP’s over-cooked books at the camera. sneered at the Crook from Cook’s economic mismanagement and announced, with the help of friendly voices in the Senate, that these totally unaffordable, totally unfair, tax cuts that grossly favour the rich over the poor, and men over women, are hereby “dead buried and cremated”.
Polls at the time showed Australian voters would have endorsed such action; more importantly, the Albanese government would easily have weathered the prolonged LNP “BROKEN PROMISE!” campaign that would have followed.
Instead, Albanese and Chalmers folded to Ed Husic and other nervous nellies in their ranks and we’ve had to put up with watching both the PM and the Treasurer squirming and bumbling their way through late 2023 and early 2024 media interviews with “no plans to change anything” and “the tax cuts are legislated” weasel words and sorry side steps.
Of course, when I first started this particular topic to rant on back in June 2022, social media was chockas with arguments that there was no need to act back then; the legislated tax cuts wouldn’t be coming in until mid 2024! Plenty of time to sort things out.
Well, guess what, everybody! Tick tock, tick tock! Believe the large bulk of the mainstream mediocre and Labor is not in as sound a position now as they would have been back then to confine the tax cuts to the waste bin they so richly deserve.
And, as a result of all this dithering and senseless delay, the MSM’s confected outrage over a BROKEN PROMISE! will now ramp up much closer to the next election.
Brilliantly done, Albo and Jimbo. Brilliantly done.
The only solution I can see to this absolute mess is that Albanese and Chalmers will stick to this shitty promise, will throw money at the rich for the year or so until the 2025 election (at least they won’t spend it, adding to inflation!) and then promise to make major changes then, therefore somehow hoping to wedge Peter Dutton and the LNP over an issue they were stupidly wedged themselves over back by Morrison.
A dreadfully sloppy, second-best-by-far tactic compared with brave, positive action that the public would have given the thumbs up to 19 months ago.
