PM breaks panda news

PANDA PROGRESS:

Two giant pandas hosted by Adelaide Zoo will return to China but will be replaced by a new pair or even more of the rare and cute animals, according to prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

On a visit to Beijing last year Prime Minister Anthony Albanese raised the future of the Adelaide pandas with Chinese Government officials. (below)

The pandas, Wang Wang and Fu Ni, (below) have been on loan from China since 2009 under a deal that is due to expire this year.

At a news conference this morning, Mr Albanese announced that their future had finally been clarified.

“The Chinese Government has agreed to not only maintain but to boost its panda presence in Australia,” Mr Albanese announced today.

“While Wang Wang and Fu Ni will return to China, I am assured that they will be replaced in Adelaide by not just two but many more pandas now being acclimatised in Beijing. (main picture)

“In fact I can announce that China intends to send pandas to all state capitals very soon.

“I understand they will be sending perhaps dozens if not many, many more pandas to our major cities in the near future.

“This is a win-win for Australia,” he said, “and coincidentally, that’s the name China has given to all the pandas it plans on shipping here.”
