Is Anthony Albanese about to resign as Prime Minister?
That’s the question in front of mind of the compilers of this column after a stinging rebuke of Albanese’s role in the job in the 20 month since his election win in May 2022 (see top image).
And exactly who is it that has doubts about the PM’s capabilities as this Sky News Australia teaser points out, with the clear inference that Albanese lacks the strong leadership needed to see Oz though the challenges ahead?
Well, the answer is Sky News host Steve Price, who reckons he has never seen anyone lose their “self-confidence” as quickly as our PM.
“Australians want – indeed demand – strong leadership, just think John Howard or Bob Hawke or Tony Abbot, no-one was ever in any doubt where people like that stood on an issue,” Mr Price said.
“Tell me though as we enter what looks like being a tough 2024, tell me what does Anthony Albanese actually stand for?
“Examples – Australia Day, January 26th. We have had some weasel words from the PM – basically he says Australia Day is on January 26 but where is his full throated support for our national day?
“He’s embarrassed by his Yes vote failure where 60 per cent of us said we want no part of your Voice. The PM clearly doesn’t want to be tied to the date of January 26th.”
Mr Price said Mr Albanese wasn’t strong enough to even “prosecute the case for change”.
The Bug has learned that Albanese is in Newcastle today, so we’ve dispatched news crews to that city’s airport, Canberra Airport and the RAAF base nearby, and on all roads to Yarralumla just in case he feels compelled to do the right thing in the wake of Price’s savage but fair attack.
