MIDDLE EAST PEACE SOLUTIONS:
Israel is moving its security fence in the West Bank to the eastern most point of the Palestinian territory – right up against the Jordan River, the Dead Sea and Jordan itself.
And Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has released a statement explaining why the move is essential to protect the Jewish state’s safety and its right to defend itself against suicide rock throwers.
First built years ago, the security fence evoked massive international criticism and sparked claims that it clearly breached international law when it was erected up to 18km into the West Bank territory’s western flank and effectively put many thousands of Palestinians under Israel control.
The move emboldened Jewish settlers, defended by the Israel Defence Force, to build a series of settlements in the western edge of the West Bank (at left of picture, above).
Even before Hamas’s murderous foray on October 7, hundreds of West Bank Palestinians had been shot dead by those settlers or the IDF for protesting those spreading settlements by stupidly throwing rocks at their new neighbours.
The big shift to the east of the security fence will release the Palestinian Authority of its control of 40 per cent of the West Bank and give Israel total control over the three million West Bank residents. This will include what Jewish roads are prohibited to them, when and if they can operate markets and other businesses and how not to react like animals if their olive trees are cut down or their farming lands and homes bulldozed.
In his statement Netanyahu said the new location of the security fence was, regrettably, a slow and long-term process in convincing the Palestinians to leave Israel’s sacred lands “once and for all”
“We don’t have a Hamas presence in the West Bank as the excuse to raze the entire territory, which of course would be our preferred quick-fix option”, he wrote.
The Bug has been unable to confirm reports that the three million Palestinians who will now be under full Israeli control when the new fence line is completed are being made to wear a yellow triangle or similar identification until such time as they see sense and agree to permanently leave Israel’s historic and promised lands by swimming across the Jordan River or by agreeing to be trucked to southern Gaza so they can make their way to Egypt or beyond.
