THE ISRAELI/GAZA WAR:

The very best satire is that which is barely distinguishable – perhaps even indistinguishable – from the reality it’s taking the mickey out of.

So when the image (above) appeared some days back, it took all of The Bug’s three-decades-plus of satirical endeavour to quickly suss out that here was a pisstake of gigantic proportions.

The image was accompanied by this text: “Harey Zahav real estate company, known for building homes for settlers in the West Bank, has announced a new project taking advantage of the genocide in Gaza.

“For months, Israel, responsible for unprecedented massacres and genocide in Gaza, plans to build on the blood of Palestinian victims, and it is sharing these plans not silently but openly for the world to see. As always, no one is raising their voice against these genocidal and treacherous plans.”

Okay, it didn’t take 34 years of experience to nail this sucker for the cruel sendup it is of what the world is now getting to realise are the majority of Israelis – a bunch of total cunts who have never, ever, believed in a two-state solution to the region’s woes.

But if whoever was behind this wants to try another go, some hints. Cut out the political messaging. We appreciate that the urge to sprout it is overwhelming but it’s a deadset giveaway.

And you’ve got to spend a lot more time making these projects look far more realistic – you know, like how they’re actually going to look like down the track once Palestinians are fully bulldozed out of Israel’s sacred lands.

The reality is that the first fully-gated kibbutz communities in Gaza are going to be highrise and over by the sea.

Any self-respecting developer will wait until the Israeli Defence Forces raze all those unsightly department ruins first – why incur that cost yourself?

And the shitty, pre-fab dwellings shown? Well, some Palestinians will be spared to provide domestic help for the incoming Israeli settlers.

Doubt any of this?

The Bug rang Bibi and Son Builders in Tel Aviv and they said exactly that: “The big projects that will bring in the big shekels will be by the ocean. They’re the ones that will fund the shittier little projects like those shown in the image.”

So there you have it. A B for effort but much work needs to be done before such satire punches way above its weight and says more about the corrupt and murderous regime of Netanyahu than simply telling the world what they are doing by throwing genocide truth bombs at them.

And apart from anything else, this post gives The Bug a chance to once again show off its own contribution from weeks ago to this very scenario.

Yes, our Photoshop skills remain very basic but we think we nailed what’s coming. And trust us, it’s coming! And even if it’s not coming, top-shelf satire assumes it is. Welcome to New South Israel!
