Lehrmann stage show opens soon

Brisbane impresario Vince Agarol (below) says his new stage musical based on the Bruce Lehrmann defamation trial is in final rehearsals.

The songwriter and theatrical entrepreneur best known for his as-yet-unproduced stage show Poo Jogger: The Musical said he was hoping to premiere his new work soon despite the trial not being finished.

“I’m not worried about that because I know there’s been more than enough drama in the evidence that’s been presented so far,” Mr Agarol said.

“Rehearsals have been going well,” he said. “As I did with Poo Jogger I wrote the new show and all of its songs myself and once again decided to use real faeces on stage to give the actors and audience an authentic experience.”(main picture)

He said efforts to stage Poo Jogger, starring himself in the lead role and based on the notorious jogger who emptied his bowels in southside Brisbane driveways before being caught in 2018 (below), were “on the backburner” while he promoted the new Lehrmann-based show he had titled Total Shitfight.

“I became very interested in the defamation trial after watching news reports about it on the TV news,” Mr Agarol explained.

“It’s the eternal story about the search for truth, fighting for your rights, waiting for judgement day, personal redemption, and lots and lots of people getting absolutely covered in shit in the meantime.

“I certainly haven’t been short of inspiration and I’ve written some real toe-tappers for it like The shit hits the fan! for the Bruce Lehrmann character, How much more shit can I take? for Brittany, and I’m in deep shit! for the actor playing Lisa Wilkinson.”

Mr Agarol said final casting would be determined soon and lead roles would be assigned to actors from his Enema Ensemble troupe.

“We’re in final rehearsals now and all I need is to find a theatre that allows me to plumb temporary pipes from its sewer lines to the stage and we’ll be ready to raise the curtain.,” he said.

“I’m really looking forward to opening night. It’ll be a big night. A real old-style premiere with searchlights, pre and post-show parties, brown carpet – the lot.”
