US political observers say a Donald Trump rally today underlines their concerns about the increasingly authoritarian nature of his statements and behaviour as he continues to campaign for the Republican Party’s presidential nomination.
Their misgivings are based on Mr Trump’s past behaviour including his efforts to incite the storming of the US Capitol to overturn the 2020 election results, his description of political opponents as “vermin”, and statements about his intentions to use his executive authority as a re-elected President to settle political scores.
But one US commentator said a rally held today in Futtbuck, Idaho had increased concerns about a possible second Trump presidency.
“Trump’s unorthodox and authoritarian behaviour has gone even further today at his rally in Futtbuck,” said Professor Marge Innoverra of Harvard University’s political science faculty.
At the rally Donald Trump spoke for almost an hour to a capacity and cheering crowd repeating his usual threatening lines before dropping his pants and literally wiping his backside with a copy of the US Constitution. (main picture)
He held up the soiled document and said: “We really don’t need this piece of shit any more do we?”
Trump then clarified his statement by saying: “I don’t mean my piece of shit which is just beautiful. I really do do very nice shits. Very nice do-do I do. My number twos are just gorgeous, the best in the world.
“No, I mean we don’t need this piece of shit Constitution do we?” he asked the crowd which yelled its agreement and broke out into a chant of “USA, USA, USA!”
Professor Innoverra said she was very concerned at Trump’s behaviour and statements.
“Yet my concerns about him pale when compared with my concern that polling in the immediate aftermath of the Futtbuck rally showed his approval ratings going up,” she said before weeping uncontrollably.
