‘Final’ song put to the test

The newest and last song ever to be performed by The Beatles was released worldwide this week. The result of the latest high-tech sound recovery and enhancement techniques, the song Now and Then features music by Paul McCartney, the late George Harrison, and Ringo Starr with vocals by the late John Lennon taken from a cassette that surfaced 14 years after his 1980 murder. The Bug took to the streets of Brisbane to test public response.

KERRY THATWEIGHT, 28 – retired barista, New Farm

It’s a song by The Who? No, no, no, that’s wrong. You need to correct that. I said ‘The who?’ I didn’t mean ‘The Who’. Anyway, I’m under 60 so I’ve never heard of the Beatles. Come to think of it, I’ve never heard of The Who either.

LOU C. N. THESKYWITHDIAMONDS – 42, pedant, Toowong

I don’t want to seem like a pedant, but strictly speaking I think the previous vox popper should have said: ‘The whom?’

You are a pedant, so fuck off.

MARTHA MYDEAR, 64 – part-time life model, Nundah

It could have been improved with some of Yoko Ono’s high-pitched screaming and indecipherable ranting which I loved so much on her and John Lennon’s post-Beatles work.

IVANA HOLDYOURHAND – 30, professional protestor, West End

I’ll not be listening to the song as I have never forgiven The Beatles for releasing their White Album in 1968. Talk about a racist title. Black lives matter you know.

LOU C. N. THESKYWITHDIAMONDS – 42, pedant, Toowong

I don’t want to seem like a pedant, but strictly speaking it was never called the White Album. It was titled The Beatles and was simply packaged in an all-white cover.

You are a pedant, so fuck off.

DICK STARKEY – 83, visiting from the UK

It’s good, but certainly not as good as their brilliant best, Octopus’s Garden. I think it could have done with more drumming.
