At the very least, we now have a fairly good idea what the BC stands for in Brisbane radio station 4BC.

It’s probably either Brazenly Copied or Borrowed Completely. The MGH suspects either is a fair bet following the news that serial plagiarist and discredited journalist Peter Gleeson has been announced as the new permanent host of the station’s Drive slot from 3pm to 6pm.

Gleeson is the bloke who got booted from his gigs at The Courier-Mail and SkyNews in late 2022 for multiple cases of plagiarism yet back in June 4BC management saw him as a fit person to be the temporary replacement for Neil Breen on the station’s Drive shift.

As Mumbrella pointed out back then: “Just seven short months ago, Peter Gleeson exited News Corp Australia in disgrace after multiple instances of plagiarism were revealed, destroying a near 34-year career, which ended with senior roles at The Courier-Mail and Sky News.

“Despite that, Nine’s Brisbane radio station 4BC still somehow views the story-stealer as worthy of employment.”

The MGH totally shares Mumbrella’s view of this dreadful “story-stealer”.

Think about this for a moment. What are the overall parent company – Nine Entertainment Co. – and the management of 4BC – telling the station’s audience in giving Gleeson this permanent job? That ethics in journalism, including the basic tenet that you don’t steal other people’s work and claim it as your own, were not the key issue in seeing merit in Gleeson?

But that’s where an even bigger problem with Gleeson’s new permanent gig kicks in. He is a notorious right-whinger, and clearly Nine Entertainment Co. chair Peter Costello and 4BC station senior management want Gleeson to continue to spread his risible right-wing shit.

Even Gleeson, in mentioning his permanent appointment, said he was particularly looking forward to next year’s city council and then state election next October, supposedly to share his views with his loyal 4BC audience which will no doubt heavily involve praising a 20-year-plus LNP city council while calling time’s up on a stale, nine-year, three term Labor state government.

Wonder why we are so sure that’s going to be the case. (Memo subs: find us that picture of Gleeso at that LNP fundraiser. Subs: this one?)

The MGH only once saw and heard Gleeson in action when he was on SkyNews after dark, back in 2019 from memory. He was one of a panel of a far-right tag-team wrestling to take turns to sink the boot into then Opposition leader Bill Shorten.

Each vomitous spiel was a plagiarised version of the spiel before, and all had fuck-all to do with journalism as they spewed forth LNP talking points.

Clearly, this is what Nine in Queensland now expects from Gleeson and Gleeson will gladly deliver it in spades. We can only hope that 4BC audience will have enough smarts to turn him off.
