Aussie couple barred in US

US NEWS:

WASHINGTON DC: The US Secret Service says it has now released from custody but will also deport an Australian couple who had attempted to gain unauthorised entry to the state dinner being hosted by President Joe Biden at the White House for visiting Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

The couple (pictured above outside the White House gates) identified themselves as Morris Scotson and Brianna Houston.

Scotson said he and Houston, whom he stressed was not his spouse but “just a good friend”, had broken no US laws but were expected to board a flight today and return to Australia at the direction of the Secret Service.

“It’s a very disappointing outcome because I had personally promised Brian…. err, Brianna, that I would use my influence to get us a couple of seats at the state dinner,” he said.

“I have been to one previously but he… she has never had that experience,” he added before refusing to elaborate.

Mr Scotson said he had thought it would be easy for the couple to be admitted to the dinner.

“I mean, what Australian PM visiting Washington and what US president wouldn’t love to have me and Brianna at a state dinner?” he said before yelling: “How good is a state dinner?”

Mr Scotson said the couple were “aggressively” questioned by Secret Service agents, but he had responded in kind.

“I really gave the agents curry,” he said. “Quite literally. I had brought along a couple of frozen tubs of my vindaloo.

“I offered to microwave them for the state dinner guests, but the Secret Service knocked back the idea,” Mr Scotson said.

Ms Houston said she was very disappointed at the outcome of her and Scotson’s US visit.

“I really wanted to finally get into the White House and get me some of that butternut squash soup, short ribs and hazelnut and chocolate mousse cake on the state dinner menu,” she said.

“It’s regrettable that our stay has been cut short, but we still have a few hours to see some of the major tourist attractions in Washington.

“I hope that before we head to the airport we’ll be able to visit the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and Capitol Hillsong,” she said.
